Wondering Why So Many History Classes?

On October 31, 2010 was the opening date to register for spring 2011, for early registration. I am the type of person who likes to get task done early so I will not have to deal with it later on and be worried and stressed over it. I was looking up of what I had to finish and complete to transfer my hours over to UT Tyler, so I am could become a Nurse, with my BSN. I looked and saw I had to have twelve hours of History. I am definitely not a History nor an English person by far, and I to see that there was more required hours to take History over there are Math course was bizarre. Don't Math teachers usually say you will always use Math here on out, but History teachers do not. I just think that all the History should be a choice and come to be elective not core classes someone has to take, and will bring down there GPA because someone dreads the fact of our History.
Some people do say that you have to know History of our Country and so on, but do you really? It does not matter if I know the First World War, dates should not matter. Nothing in History is going to benefit me in the future, but if I am wrong in this conclusion, please state so.

  1. Do you have to take 12 hours because you went to tjc first? My roommate is going to ut for her bsn also and she only needed history 1 and history 2.I do agree with you though,I feel its a waist to have so many hours of history if that isn't your major. You should be able to focus on what you're wanting to do which is nursing and not have to take all of those history classes.

  2. I agree that 12 hours of history is a lot, but I do think it is somewhat important that we know some history in efforts to keep it from repeating itself. I myself am facing the delima of what will and will not transfer and how many hours of certain subjects you have to have in order to transfer. It is not fun I do not think that they should make it so hard. It is not a wonder that some people are discouraged from going to college because it is incredibly complex and confusing.

  3. I love history so I would not mind taking a lot of history classes although all that reading might get boring:). It does seem foolish that you have to take more history classes than math though, especially since you are going into nursing. Though history can be interesting, I do not see how it will be applicable in your major. Degree plans are so wierd.
    P.S. I love your background!

  4. I also do not like history classes and I definitely do not understand the reasoning of so many history credits for your nursing degree. Although, I do wish you luck in all those hours you have to take. :p
