Cell Phones In Modern Society

What would the world do without cell phones? It would all be a totally different world, if so. I remember this week, one of my Professors, Dr. Webster stated that he, himself that he does not have a cell phone, and he told out class that he does not think he needs one. If someone needed to contact him, it will either be by the house phone, his office phone, or by email, to him he sees cell phones not a necessity right not. But, he did state that if it came down to him getting one he would. Everyone in the class, gasped when he stated that. We all couldn't believe that he didn't have a cell phone because to us, it is a normal thing for anybody who is in their teens to have one.

Cell phones do have a positive approach on our society, whether you are in a wreck and need someone to call or maybe like in the Boost mobile commercial you have given birth and want the world to know. I keep my handy all the time, due to the fact I am dating someone and want to text him all day and night. But not in the sense of where you use the phone over what is really important in our society, family and the ones we love.

Does it seem crazy to you Dr. Webster doesn't have a phone, or is it because (if you knew him) he is old, and no old people know how cell phones work?

  1. I don't think being old has anything to do with why he doesn't have one because my roomates grandmother who is 69 has a cellphone and a Facebook.I do find it weird that he chooses not to have a cell phone but then again it's one less thing he has to pay for and it is true..if anyone needs to get a hold of him there's otter ways them just a cell phone.

  2. I think that age is a factor for owning a cell phone. Not only because they do not want to learn a new technology, but also because if they were not raised with one they do not see a need. Modern society puts such a stree on being up to date with everything, but they are content to wait, which is great! We can learn a lot about patience and slowing down to "smell the roses" from our elders!

  3. I was blown away the other day when I realized that my daughter lives in a world that's always had Pixar-type animation. For her, there's live-action, there's cartoons, and there's computer-generated shows.

I like Pixar as much as anyone else, but I don't think very young children will grow up with the same type of appreciation. I'm constantly amazed at how realistic some scenes appear, that the animators can so closely resemble reality. But my daughter, I imagine, will probably see the feat as a given, as par for the course when it comes to entertainment.

Changes become normalized over time, don't they?
